NVIDIA Bets on At-Home AI With New Personal Chip

NVIDIA wants to move artificial intelligence out of the cloud and into your home. The company has developed a new chip called the RTX Spark, designed to power AI-ready laptops and desktops hitting the market this fall.
The machines would run AI assistants directly on the device, meaning tasks like finding files and getting things done could happen without sending your data to an outside server. NVIDIA says that makes the experience both more private and more secure for everyday users.
The move puts NVIDIA in direct competition with Apple, Microsoft and Qualcomm, all of which are racing to build the next generation of AI-equipped personal computers.
NVIDIA's CEO says he believes these AI-capable machines could one day become as common in homes as everyday appliances.
