Palm Springs Shatters Guinness World Record with 1,037 Marilyn Monroe Look-Alikes

The city of Palm Springs officially made history on Saturday, May 30, 2026, shattering the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. Organized by Greater Palm Springs Pride, the milestone celebration took place at the site of the towering Forever Marilyn statue in the downtown park, drawing an extraordinary crowd of dedicated fans.

A total of 1,037 look-alikes gathered simultaneously beneath the desert sun, completely obliterating the previous world record of 254 impersonators. Despite the intense summer heat, participants remained in high spirits, donning matching platinum blonde wigs and the star's signature white dresses to pay proper homage to the legendary actress.

The massive gathering served as the centerpiece for the multi-day Marilyn 100 centennial festivities, honoring what would have been Monroe's 100th birthday on June 1, 2026. Organizers noted that the crowd size far exceeded their original target of attracting 500 participants. Beyond the record-breaking photo op, downtown Palm Springs was flooded with themed events, including pop-up glam shops, live tribute bands, and electronic DJ dance parties.

The centennial celebrations seamlessly coincided with the launch of Greater Palm Springs Restaurant Week, which is currently underway and runs through next Sunday. The highly anticipated ten-day culinary event features exclusive prix fixe menus and special dining deals at participating restaurants across all nine cities within the valley oasis.

Other weekend activities included a Marilyn and Mutts meet-and-greet hosted on Sunday afternoon at the local establishment Boozehounds. Additionally, film lovers filled the historic Plaza Theatre for a special screening of Some Like It Hot, one of Monroe's most celebrated and enduring comedy films, capping off a historic weekend dedicated to the cinematic icon.

More than 2,000 rescues — and the year isn’t over yet. Santa Clemente lifeguards are keeping a close eye on the Pacific as they prepare for potentially stronger surf and bigger waves this winter. From Tower Zero, lifeguards monitor the entire beach and use cameras to spot trouble in the water. One of their biggest concerns? Rip currents, which can pull swimmers far from shore. With more rescues already this year than all of last year, lifeguards say the key is simple: be ready before someone needs help. #SanClemente #Lifeguards #OceanSafety #RipCurrents #BeachSafety SurfSafety SouthernCalifornia PacificOcean NBCPalmSprings
