Sacramento Wine Lounge Teneral Cellars Celebrates Pride Month with Mission of Safety and Purpose
A prominent wine lounge in Sacramento's Midtown neighborhood is welcoming the start of Pride Month by reinforcing its dedication to community connection, intersectional inclusion, and guest safety. Located in the vibrant Lavender Heights district, Teneral Cellars is actively transforming how traditional wine businesses operate while providing an intentional refuge for the local community.
The timing carries an extra layer of excitement for the establishment this year. Co-owners Jill Osur and Lisa Orrell announced that Teneral Cellars has been officially selected as the exclusive wine sponsor for the upcoming Sacramento Pride festivities. For the entrepreneurial duo, the achievement aligns perfectly with their operational motto to party and pour with purpose.
A Mission Beyond the Bottle
For Osur and Orrell, producing award-winning wine is only a singular chapter of their corporate blueprint. The duo originally launched their venture in 2020 within Amador County, subsequently racking up more than 100 industry awards for their sustainably farmed products. From its inception, the mission-driven brand has committed to donating 10 percent of all private profits directly back to grassroots organizations that empower women and fight for generational social justice. To date, the business has successfully channeled nearly $350,000 into those critical social causes.
After establishing their production roots in the Sierra Foothills, the owners intentionally focused on opening their Midtown tasting room and lounge to create a physical environment where empowerment and safety are actively practiced.
Prioritizing Neighborhood Safety and Support
The focus on creating an explicit safe space comes in direct response to recent safety concerns reported throughout the surrounding Midtown corridor. To ensure that the lounge serves as a true sanctuary, Osur and Orrell have proactively enrolled their entire staff in specialized community programs. This training prepares employees to identify individuals experiencing trauma or crisis and provide immediate, empathetic care.
Osur noted that it remains deeply important to the management team that anyone walking through their doors feels fundamentally secure. If a person enters the establishment experiencing trauma, the staff is fully equipped to provide a protective environment, coordinate with local emergency services or law enforcement if requested, and ensure the individual is completely looked after.
Pivoting in a Challenging Industry
The lounge format itself represents a creative response to broader economic shifts, as the domestic wine industry currently navigates a 30-year operational low. Rather than operating a restrictive, traditional daytime tasting room, Teneral Cellars has pivoted into a dynamic evening wine lounge.
By regularly hosting live acoustic music, curated themed events, and expansive Pride celebrations, the venue is actively fulfilling a distinct societal need. The owners noted that local residents are consistently expressive about their hunger for authentic community spaces and genuine human connections, elements that the neighborhood hub intends to provide throughout June and beyond.
