Trump Faces New Legal Setbacks as Administration Defends Anti-Weaponization Fund
President Trump is entering June facing a string of legal defeats in federal court.
A judge halted the administration's so-called "Anti-Weaponization Fund," a program that would use taxpayer money to reimburse people who claim they were unfairly prosecuted under the Biden administration, potentially including those convicted for their role in the January 6th Capitol attack. A prosecutor who had worked January 6th cases filed suit against the fund, and it is now on pause while the Justice Department defends its legality.
In a separate ruling, another federal judge ordered Trump's name removed from the Kennedy Center and temporarily blocked the administration from shutting the venue down for renovations. Trump responded by saying he would hand control of the institution over to Congress.
The president also suggested canceling a planned concert at the Great American State Fair after several artists dropped out, citing concerns the event was too political. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum pushed back on that characterization, saying "this Freedom 250 and the celebration of the 250 is a nonpartisan event." Trump is now expected to headline the fair himself, and floated the idea of a MAGA rally as a replacement, saying he had no interest in "overpriced singers who do nothing but complain."
