Trump Says Iran Peace Talks Back On Amid Renewed Strikes

Tensions in the Middle East remain high tonight as conflicting reports emerge over the status of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.

After an Iranian news organization reported that Tehran had suspended talks, President Donald Trump told NBC News the negotiations are still moving forward.

The confusion began after Iran’s semiofficial Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran had halted high-stakes talks, citing Israel’s expanding military operations into Lebanon as a key reason.

The diplomatic back-and-forth comes as both sides continue military activity in the region. U.S. officials say American forces carried out what they described as self-defense strikes targeting Iranian drones and radar sites.

Meanwhile, sirens reportedly sounded in Kuwait City after Iran targeted U.S. military bases in the country. Officials with United States Central Command said U.S. forces successfully intercepted the missiles.

Speaking to NBC News, President Trump said that even if talks temporarily stall, it does not necessarily mean military action will immediately escalate again.

Republican lawmakers expressed confidence in Trump’s negotiating strategy, saying the goal remains preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon while avoiding a prolonged conflict.

Democrats, however, warned that continued fighting could embolden Iran and further destabilize the region, particularly through drone attacks and threats to energy infrastructure.

The uncertainty is also affecting global markets. Oil prices climbed following reports that negotiations had broken down, while shipping traffic through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz remains limited amid ongoing security concerns.
