Coachella City Council to Discuss Data Center Moratorium, Vacant Seat This Week

The Coachella City Council is preparing for two important special meetings this week, with major topics including the future of data centers in the city and filling a vacant council seat.

On Thursday night, city leaders are expected to discuss a proposed urgency ordinance that would begin a moratorium process related to data center development. The discussion will also include an agreement involving Stronghold Power Systems Incorporated, the company connected to the controversial proposed project that has drawn significant public attention in recent months.

A closed session is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., followed by a public special meeting at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Then on Friday, council members will interview applicants seeking to fill the current vacancy on the city council. The meeting is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Coachella Library.

According to the city’s website, there are 10 eligible applicants under consideration for the open seat.

NBC Palm Springs will be at both meetings as discussions move forward later this week.
