Wellness Wednesday: Staying Hydrated in the Coachella Valley Heat
When the desert heat kicks in, drinking water is just the start. This week's Wellness Wednesday visit to Clark's Nutrition is a good reminder that real hydration is about more than what's in your glass.
The Valley heat means your body is working overtime, and plain water alone may not be enough to keep you feeling your best. The key is electrolytes, the minerals that help your body actually hold onto and use the water you drink. Sodium and potassium are the two big players, and most of us are already getting plenty of sodium but not nearly enough potassium, often because we're not eating enough fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
That imbalance matters more than you might think. Even mild dehydration can bring on foggy thinking, low energy, anxiety, and poor sleep. If you've been feeling off and can't figure out why, your hydration levels may be worth a second look.
The good news is there are plenty of easy options to help you stay balanced. Electrolyte powders, drops, and tablets are widely available and simple to add to your daily routine, so you can pick the format that works best for you and adjust based on how active you're being or how hot it gets outside.
