Indio Man Sentenced to 43 Years to Life for 2023 Fatal Shooting

An Indio man convicted of a deadly shooting has been sentenced to 43 years to life in state prison.

Thirty-nine-year-old Hilario Larry Muela Jr. received the sentence Friday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Muela was found guilty in February of second-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of 36-year-old Marco Ramirez Jr.

According to prosecutors, the shooting was the result of a street confrontation between the two men that was fueled by an ongoing grudge.

Ramirez was fatally shot during the encounter, leading to an investigation that ultimately resulted in Muela's arrest and prosecution.

Following a trial earlier this year, jurors convicted Muela of second-degree murder. The court handed down the sentence this week, bringing the case to a close more than two years after the fatal shooting.

The Riverside County District Attorney's Office prosecuted the case.
