Palm Springs Weighs $4 Million Land Purchase for New Fire Station

Palm Springs city leaders are considering a $4 million land purchase to pave the way for a new fire station in the city.

The proposed site sits at the southwest corner of Andreas Road and North Indian Canyon Drive and would become the future home of Fire Station No. 1 for the Palm Springs Fire Department.

According to city documents, the current station is undersized and no longer meets several modern standards for safety, accessibility and day-to-day operations. Officials say a new facility would better serve the department’s needs and improve emergency response capabilities.

The property being considered includes several existing buildings, some of which were designated as Class 1 historic sites in 2016. Because of those protections, any plans involving demolition or major changes to the structures would require additional review and approval.

The proposal is expected to be discussed at the next Palm Springs City Council meeting, scheduled for next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
