Planned Power Outage Follows Widespread Service Disruptions in Palm Springs
Some residents in Palm Springs experienced a planned power outage today as Southern California Edison conducted scheduled electrical work.
The planned shutoff comes just hours after a separate outage impacted more than 15,000 customers Wednesday night. Utility officials say it was one of two outages reported in Palm Springs that day.
In response, Southern California Edison is encouraging residents to be prepared for both planned and unexpected outages.
Officials recommend keeping an emergency preparedness kit stocked with bottled water, nonperishable food and essential supplies in case of extended outages or emergencies.
Residents are also urged to familiarize themselves with important electrical features in their homes, including how to manually open electric garage doors if power is lost.
Utility representatives say unplugging appliances during outages can help prevent damage when electricity is restored. They also recommend adjusting air conditioning settings to the low 80s before leaving home and returning them to normal upon arrival to help reduce energy strain during periods of high demand.
Edison officials say taking small steps ahead of time can help residents stay safer and more comfortable when outages occur.
