The current scheduled shutdown, managed by Southern California Edison (SCE), is a planned maintenance operation affecting approximately 365 customers in the immediate vicinity of the Biltmore Colony neighborhood. According to utility representatives, the localized grid de-energization is required to safely facilitate vital equipment upgrades and is slated to continue until 4:00 PM on Thursday.
While utility officials emphasize that today's infrastructure work was scheduled well in advance, the temporary service suspension arrives at a time of heightened frustration for local residents. The immediate neighborhood was crippled by two completely separate, unplanned outages just 24 hours prior.
The most severe of those consecutive disruptions occurred Wednesday evening, beginning at approximately 6:00 PM, when a critical failure at a regional electrical substation triggered a cascading blackout. The emergency incident abruptly severed electrical service to more than 15,000 homes and commercial businesses across Palm Springs. Emergency repair crews were dispatched to the substation to isolate the physical malfunction, ultimately restoring power to the vast majority of impacted accounts just before 8:00 PM.
SCE administrators continue to monitor the regional grid as rising seasonal temperatures put increased baseline demands on localized circuits. A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
