Cathedral City Woman Celebrates 99th Birthday Surrounded by Four Generations of Family
Last Saturday, May 30, family and friends gathered in Cathedral City to celebrate a remarkable milestone as Loretta Young turned 99 years old.
A birthday bash was held at Nick's Bistro inside the Date Palm Country Club, where Loretta was surrounded by four generations of family members who traveled to the Coachella Valley for the special occasion. Friends also filled the restaurant to help mark the memorable day.
Born on a farm in Nebraska in 1927, Loretta has witnessed nearly a century of history and change. Despite the challenges and losses that come with a long life, she says the support of family and friends is what keeps her going.
“There must be a reason why God keeps me on this Earth. Otherwise, he left me a long time ago because he took so many people that I didn't expect. But look what I've got here today. I've got relatives plus friends. And when you got friends and relatives, what else do you need,” she said.
Having experienced decades of change firsthand, Loretta says she has concerns about the state of the world but remains optimistic. Her outlook is shaped by a lifetime of seeing difficult times come and go.
Those who attended the celebration say her resilience, gratitude, and positive attitude continue to inspire everyone around her.
Before the festivities ended, Loretta was told NBC Palm Springs would be back next year to celebrate her 100th birthday. She responded with confidence, saying she plans to stick around for the occasion.
Happy 99th Birthday, Loretta!
