Trump Abruptly Ends Tense Meet the Press Interview
New fallout is emerging after Donald Trump abruptly ended a tense interview this weekend on the TV show Meet the Press.
During the interview, Trump repeated unsubstantiated claims of election fraud while criticizing California’s vote-counting process following last week’s primary elections, where ballots are still being processed.
When pressed for evidence supporting those claims, the president escalated his criticism of major news organizations before ending the conversation and walking away from the interview.
State and local election officials in California have said the extended counting timeline is standard due to the processing of mail-in ballots, and there has been no public evidence presented of widespread fraud tied to the election.
The interview also touched on foreign policy, including ongoing tensions involving Iran. Trump defended his military policies after being questioned about campaign promises to avoid new wars.
Additionally, the president addressed a controversial proposed compensation fund for individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, saying he would support compensating some participants despite recent statements from the Justice Department indicating the proposal is not moving forward.
The interview was conducted by NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Garrett Haake.
