Woman Arrested After Mistaking Desert Hot Springs Officers for ICE Agents, Police Say

A woman was arrested in Desert Hot Springs after allegedly mistaking local police officers for federal immigration agents and nearly hitting them with her vehicle, according to police.

The incident occurred while officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department were conducting compliance checks on registered sex offenders in the city.

Police said the woman was observed taking photographs or recording video of officers during the operation. Investigators allege she then drove recklessly through the area and came dangerously close to striking officers with her vehicle.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, police say the driver failed to yield and continued driving.

Authorities said the woman eventually drove to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, where she was taken into custody without further incident.

She was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, driving without a valid driver's license and misdemeanor evading.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Police have not released the woman's identity. The investigation remains ongoing.
