College of the Desert Names Genesis Gonzalez Director of Public Affairs and Community Relations

College of the Desert has announced the appointment of Genesis Gonzalez as its new director of public affairs and community relations.

Gonzalez began her new role this week and will oversee the college's public affairs strategy, media relations and community engagement efforts.

College officials say she brings more than 15 years of communications experience to the position, including nearly a decade working in higher education.

Most recently, Gonzalez held communications and marketing leadership roles at UC Riverside, where she helped develop outreach initiatives and communications strategies aimed at connecting the university with students, stakeholders and the broader community.

In her new role, Gonzalez will serve as a key liaison between College of the Desert and the communities it serves, helping communicate the institution's programs, initiatives and priorities.

College leaders say her background in strategic communications and community engagement will support the college's efforts to strengthen relationships with students, faculty, staff and local partners.

Gonzalez said she is excited to join the institution and looks forward to collaborating with both the campus community and residents across the Coachella Valley.

She added that she is eager to help shape the college's future while advancing its mission of serving students and the region through education, workforce development and community partnerships.
