Tuesday, June 9, 2026 is packed with some truly unique holidays, and if you did not have International Dark and Stormy Day on your radar, here is a fun one. The day celebrates a cocktail with roots tracing back nearly a century to the British Navy stationed in Bermuda, where sailors first brewed ginger beer as a remedy for seasickness, then added a splash of rum and a squeeze of lime to sweeten the deal. It is also World Pet Memorial Day, observed every second Tuesday in June, a day set aside to reflect on and honor beloved pets that have passed.
The biggest holiday on today's calendar, though, is National Donald Duck Day. On this date in 1934, the famously flustered Disney character made his very first screen appearance in the animated short film "The Wise Little Hen," and nearly a century later he is still one of the most recognizable characters in animation history.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
