La Quinta residents can now take advantage of free spay and neuter services for their dogs and cats through a city-sponsored program.

The city is offering free vouchers at City Hall that cover the cost of surgery, pain medication, e-collars and microchips for eligible pets.

Once residents pick up a voucher, appointments can be scheduled through Animal Samaritans.

City officials say the program is aimed at helping reduce pet overpopulation while making veterinary care more accessible for local families.
