Spielberg's New UFO Thriller "Disclosure Day" Opens This Weekend

Steven Spielberg is returning to the subject he knows best. His new film "Disclosure Day," starring Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor, opens in theaters this weekend, and it draws directly from real-world government UFO revelations that have unfolded over the past decade.

The film follows two characters racing to expose secrets that powerful forces want buried. Blunt and O'Connor play protagonists who, in classic Spielberg fashion, find themselves way over their heads. "Like all sort of great Spielbergian protagonists, they're usually in situations where they're way over their heads and they're kind of white-knuckling it through," Blunt said.

Spielberg has said the 2017 New York Times report on military encounters with unidentified "Tic Tac" objects was what pushed him toward the story. "I always had a core belief that we are not alone in the universe," he said. "And then 2017, when the New York Times came out with that earth-shattering report about the 'Tic Tacs,' that's when I started to think maybe there's another story to be told about what's happening today, right now."

"Disclosure Day" opens this weekend at theaters nationwide.
