Trump Says Iran Shot Down U.S. Apache Helicopter Over Strait of Hormuz

President Trump said Tuesday that Iran shot down a U.S. Army Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz late Monday night, and that the United States would have to respond.
Trump posted the claim on social media, saying both crew members onboard were rescued and not seriously injured. He added that "the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack," though he did not elaborate on what that response might look like.
U.S. Central Command said Monday night that the pilots had been patrolling near the coast of Oman when the helicopter went down, and that rescuers reached them within two hours of the incident. Iranian officials have acknowledged that something happened but have not claimed responsibility for the attack.
It remains unclear what the incident means for ongoing nuclear negotiations. Trump has said in recent weeks that the two sides are close to a deal, following a ceasefire agreement, though no agreement has been reached yet.
