House Republicans Pass $70 Billion Immigration Enforcement Bill

House Republicans sent a $70 billion immigration enforcement package to President Donald Trump's desk Tuesday, capping a months-long fight that exposed deep divisions within the party.
The bill fully funds the Department of Homeland Security for the remainder of Trump's second term, covering Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection specifically. Republicans had made the measure their top legislative priority this spring.
The House passed the bill 214 to 212, entirely along party lines. California's Independent Congressman Kevin Kiley voted against it.
The road to passage was not smooth. Earlier this year, Democrats successfully blocked Congress from approving funding for ICE or Border Patrol in the wake of federal agents killing two U.S. citizens in Minnesota, stalling Republican efforts for months before Tuesday's vote cleared the final hurdle.
