It's a Holiday, a Quiz, and a Good Time: Can You Keep Up With Jerry?
Wednesday, June 10th is packed with reasons to celebrate. It is National Iced Tea Day, a fitting tribute to one of summer's most beloved beverages. The drink, which surged in popularity at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, has been cooling people down ever since. An Arnold Palmer, that classic mix of lemonade and iced tea, also fits right in on a hot Coachella Valley afternoon.
Also on the calendar, National Black Cow Day. A black cow, for those wondering, is a root beer float, vanilla ice cream and root beer combined into one cold and creamy treat. On a warm June day, that sounds like a pretty solid plan.
Rounding out the holiday lineup is National Ballpoint Pen Day, marking the date in 1943 when a patent was filed by Hungarian immigrant siblings for a rolling ball-bearing pen with fast-drying ink.
From there, Jerry took the pen connection and ran with it, segueing into a pair of pop quiz questions that had the whole crew guessing. The questions touched on a certain fast-talking surfer from a beloved 1982 film and a legendary Bay Area musician with a very memorable nickname.
Think you know your classic movies and rock history? Here are the questions. Watch the video to find out if you got them right.
1) In the 1982 coming-of-age film Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Sean Penn plays Jeff Spicoli, a teenage surfer who lives by his own rules. Finish this Spicoli quote: "Surfing is not a sport. It's a way of life. It's no hobby. It's a way of looking at that wave and saying what..."
A) Hey bud, let's party
B) Let's get baked, babe
C) Time to meet the curl
2) San Francisco native Charles McKernan was a keyboardist, guitarist, and vocalist best known by his nickname Pigpen. Between 1965 and just months before his untimely death at age 27 in 1972, Pigpen was a founding member of which iconic Bay Area band?
A) The Grateful Dead
B) Jefferson Airplane
C) Santana
