Palm Desert Accepting Nominations for Next Poet Laureate
The City of Palm Desert is now accepting nominations for its next Poet Laureate.
The honorary position carries a two-year term beginning in October and includes an annual honorarium of $3,500.
The selected Poet Laureate will serve as an ambassador for poetry and the literary arts, representing the city through community events, educational programs and other public activities designed to encourage creative expression and appreciation for literature.
City officials say the program aims to enrich the cultural life of Palm Desert by connecting residents with poetry through performances, workshops, readings and special events.
To be eligible, candidates must be at least 18 years old and reside within Palm Desert city limits.
Community members may nominate themselves or others for consideration.
The city is seeking individuals with a demonstrated commitment to poetry, literary achievement and community engagement who can help inspire residents of all ages.
Nominations and application materials must be submitted through the City's website by June 30.
The new Poet Laureate will begin serving in October and will help advance Palm Desert's ongoing support for arts, culture and education throughout the community.
