Pet of the Week: Fosters Needed at Palm Springs Animal Shelter

Dan Rossi joined us in the studio with Lunar, a one-month-old kitten he has been fostering himself for the past two weeks. Lunar came into the shelter as a stray with no mom and no littermates, which is rare, and needed a foster fast. Dan stepped up, and the rest has been a love story in progress. She started on gruel, graduated to wet food, and is now eating dry food like a champ.

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is currently in serious need of foster families, especially for young kittens like Lunar. Fostering does not require a long-term commitment, and the shelter makes the process as easy as possible, providing all supplies, regular check-ins, and veterinary care throughout. A kitten foster can last just a few weeks, and for newborns needing bottle feeding, typically six to eight weeks.

To make it even more accessible, the shelter has launched a walk-in foster onboarding program every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. You can meet with the foster coordinator, get set up, and leave that same day with a kitten ready for care. The shelter also teaches bottle feeding for those willing to take in the youngest arrivals.

To get started, email foster@psanimalshelter.org.

The Shelter Also Wanted to Highlight Three Dogs Looking for Their Forever Homes

Lyra is a four-year-old, 40-pound brindle girl with big energy and an even bigger heart. She loves toys, walks, and people, and she is looking for an active family who can keep up.

Sierra is a five-year-old retriever mix who has been at the shelter since 2020, and her adoption fee is currently sponsored. She can be shy with new people, but once she bonds with you, she is deeply loyal and absolutely worth the patience.

Yoyo is a five-year-old Chow Chow mix who has become a staff and volunteer favorite. He walks beautifully on leash, enjoys car rides, appears housetrained, and loves being brushed. He would do best in an adult-only home, and for the right person, he is the kind of dog who makes you feel chosen.
