Sidewalk Project to Cause Traffic Delays on Cathedral Canyon Drive
Drivers traveling through Cathedral City may experience traffic delays beginning next week as the city starts a sidewalk construction project along Cathedral Canyon Drive.
The project will take place on the west side of Cathedral Canyon Drive between Paseo Azulejo and Keeley Road. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday and continue through June 26.
Work crews will be on site weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
City officials say intermittent lane closures will be necessary throughout the project, which could result in slower traffic and delays for motorists traveling through the area.
Despite the lane restrictions, officials said access to nearby homes, businesses and emergency services will be maintained throughout construction.
The sidewalk improvements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance pedestrian infrastructure and safety within the city.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use caution when traveling through the construction zone and follow all posted signs and directions from work crews.
Residents and visitors who regularly use Cathedral Canyon Drive should plan ahead and expect temporary disruptions during work hours until the project is completed later this month.
The city expects construction to wrap up on June 26, weather and project conditions permitting.
