Thursday, June 12: Traffic Signal Outage at Vista Chino and Landau Boulevard to Cause Major Delays

Drivers traveling through the border of Palm Springs and Cathedral City should prepare for significant delays on Thursday as a major traffic signal is completely powered down for utility maintenance. The traffic light at the busy intersection of Vista Chino and Landau Boulevard will remain out of service for more than eight hours while Southern California Edison crews work to replace a broken electrical transformer in the immediate area.

Local transportation officials are instructing all motorists to treat the dark intersection as a mandatory four-way stop until full utility power is successfully restored to the grid hardware. Under California traffic laws, any intersection with an inoperable or unpowered signal must be navigated with the exact same right-of-way rules as a standard stop-sign-controlled junction to prevent collisions.

Municipal public works crews will be actively monitoring the area to observe traffic conditions throughout the afternoon. Commuters are highly encouraged to seek alternative routes to bypass the affected corridor completely during the maintenance window. If travel through the intersection is unavoidable, drivers are reminded to reduce their speed, stay alert, and use extreme caution when alternating turns with other vehicles.
