Brush Fire Burns 75 Acres in Thermal, Highway 86 Closed

A brush fire scorched dozens of acres in Thermal on Sunday afternoon.

According to CAL FIRE, the so-called “72nd Fire” broke out around 2:45 p.m. near Avenue 72 and Buchanan Street in Thermal.

Officials say the fire has since been fully contained after burning approximately 75 acres.

As crews responded, a portion of Highway 86 was shut down near Polk Street and 86th Avenue due to fire activity in the area.

At this time, there are no reports of injuries or damage to nearby structures.

Firefighters remained on scene monitoring conditions and working to secure the burn area.
