Eight Presumed Dead After Bomber Crashes Near Edwards Air Force Base
Eight people are presumed dead tonight after a long-range bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in central California.
Base officials say early indications suggest the crash was not survivable. The aircraft had reportedly been conducting a routine test mission when it went down just before 11:30 a.m.
Aerial video from the scene showed a large plume of dark smoke and debris rising from a field near the crash site as emergency crews rushed to respond.
Officials say the entire airfield has been shut down following the incident, with all incoming flights being diverted while emergency response and recovery efforts continue.
Authorities have not yet released information about the aircraft involved or the identities of those believed to be onboard.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials say additional details are expected as the inquiry moves forward.
