Newsom Says DOJ Investigating Him and Wife, Alleges Political Retaliation

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that he and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, are reportedly under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, alleging the probe is politically motivated.

In a video posted to social media, Newsom said federal investigators have contacted family friends and former employees seeking records and other documents in recent weeks.

Newsom alleged President Donald Trump directed the investigation as retaliation for his criticism of the administration and potential presidential ambitions.

“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean tweets,” Newsom said. “He’s coming after me because I’m considering running for president.”

According to sources familiar with the matter, multiple federal investigations involving the governor may be underway, including one reportedly examining Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s finances.

Media outlets have sought comment from the Department of Justice, which has declined to respond publicly.

The announcement comes as California’s race to replace the term-limited governor remains in the national spotlight. The scope and status of the reported investigations have not been publicly confirmed.
