Project Phoenix: Parents Rally to Preserve Palm Valley School Community
Just days after Palm Valley School announced it would close its doors, a growing coalition of parents is working to ensure the school's community lives on.
The effort, known as Project Phoenix, has brought together more than 100 parents who are exploring the creation of a parent-led school designed to preserve many of the qualities that drew families to Palm Valley in the first place.
Parents say they quickly shifted from shock to action, organizing within hours of receiving news of the closure. Their goal is to continue offering a similar educational experience, maintain relationships between students and teachers, and keep families connected.
A major focus of the initiative is securing the existing Palm Valley School campus. Organizers say they are currently in discussions about leasing the property, which would allow students to remain in a familiar environment while providing continuity for families ahead of the upcoming school year.
Supporters of Project Phoenix say the effort extends beyond preserving a school. They believe it is also about maintaining educational choice in the Coachella Valley, including an independent, non-religious school option for families who intentionally selected that environment for their children.
With classes set to begin in just a few months, organizers say time is critical. They remain hopeful that a path forward can be established for students, teachers, and families as they work to build the next chapter of the Palm Valley community.
