Great Race to Bring Classic Cars to Twentynine Palms During Route 66 Rally
Classic car enthusiasts will have a chance to see dozens of vintage vehicles when the Great Race rolls into Twentynine Palms later this month.
The stop is part of the Great Race's 2026 Route 66-themed cross-country rally, a nine-day event featuring approximately 140 classic vehicles traveling more than 2,300 miles from Illinois to California.
Participants will make a hosted lunch stop at Luckie Park in Twentynine Palms on June 27, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to get an up-close look at the historic automobiles. Organizers say spectators will be able to meet drivers and navigators, view the vehicles and enjoy a festival-like atmosphere during the event.
The Great Race is one of the nation's premier vintage automobile rallies, bringing together drivers from across the country to compete in a time-speed-distance competition while showcasing classic cars and trucks. The vehicles participating in the event represent a wide range of automotive history and are often restored to their original condition.
The rally follows a route inspired by the historic Route 66 corridor, allowing participants to travel through communities across the country while celebrating America's automotive heritage.
Organizers expect the Twentynine Palms stop to attract both local residents and visitors eager to see the collection of classic vehicles as they make their way toward the finish line.
The 2026 Great Race is scheduled to conclude on June 28 in Pasadena, marking the end of the cross-country journey after more than 2,300 miles on the road.
