Most "Mental Health Tips" on TikTok Are Wrong, New Study Finds

More than half of the top videos on TikTok tagged "mental health tips" contain misinformation, according to new research from The Guardian. The British newspaper had academic experts and mental health professionals review the platform's top 100 videos under that hashtag, and found the majority failed to hold up to scrutiny.

The findings raise concerns for the millions of people, many of them young, who turn to TikTok for advice on anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles rather than a doctor or therapist.

TikTok pushed back on the criticism in a statement to People Magazine, saying it works with the World Health Organization to promote reliable health information on the app and removes misinformation once it's reported.
