Road work begins today on one of Palm Springs' busiest intersections, here's what drivers need to know
Crews are starting construction this morning at Indian Canyon Drive and Via Escuela, putting up project signage and utility markings as work begins on a new traffic signal at the busy intersection. The city says the project is meant to make the area safer for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists, and it came out of the city's Local Road Safety Plan along with feedback from the community.
Drivers should expect occasional lane closures and minor delays in the area, though officials say at least one lane in each direction will stay open at all times. No full road closures are planned. The city is asking anyone who regularly drives through the intersection to consider using alternate routes while work is underway.
The project moves into its next phase the week of June 22, when crews shift to underground utility work. The whole project is expected to wrap up in September 2026.
