Shore Fire Near Calimesa Reaches 54% Containment
Firefighters continue to gain ground on the Shore Fire burning south of Calimesa, with containment now reaching 54 percent.
The wildfire has burned more than 3,000 acres since it was first reported on Monday, prompting a large response from fire agencies across Southern California.
Officials say progress made by fire crews has allowed Highway 60 near the Interstate 10 interchange to reopen to traffic. The roadway had previously been affected by firefighting operations and safety concerns related to the blaze.
Multiple agencies have assisted in the response, including the Palm Springs Fire Department, which deployed personnel to help battle the fire after it erupted earlier this week.
Palm Springs firefighters have since completed their assignment and returned to their home station.
Fire crews remain on scene working to strengthen containment lines, monitor hot spots and prevent any additional spread of the fire.
No new evacuation information was immediately available, and officials continue to assess conditions in and around the burn area.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
As hot and dry conditions continue across the region, fire officials are reminding residents to stay informed about wildfire activity and follow any safety advisories issued by local authorities.
Containment efforts are expected to continue until firefighters are confident the fire is fully under control.
