Shore Fire Now 40% Contained as Crews Plan Repopulation Meeting

The Shore Fire has grown to 3,085 acres since it broke out Monday near San Timoteo Canyon Road, about 40 miles from Palm Springs, though Cal Fire says the jump in acreage isn't from new fire spreading, it's from unburned pockets inside the existing fire line burning off.
Evacuation orders remain in place in Calimesa, meaning people there are still under a lawful order to leave. Several surrounding zones in Beaumont and unincorporated Riverside County remain under evacuation warnings, meaning residents can stay but should be ready to leave, especially those with pets or livestock who may need more time. Residents can check the Cal Fire Shore Fire incident page to see whether their specific area is under an order or warning.
The Incident Command Team is planning to hold a meeting today in order to work out a safe plan for residents to return home, but no timeline for lifting the orders has been announced yet. Anyone displaced can find shelter, along with space for pets, at Valley View High School, 13135 Nason St. in Moreno Valley. Large animals can be taken to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, 581 S. Grand Ave. in San Jacinto.
Highway 60 westbound at Interstate 10 has reopened, though officials are warning drivers to watch for drift smoke that could cut down visibility in the area.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
