SunLine Offering Free Bus Rides for National Dump the Pump Day
Coachella Valley residents will be able to ride SunLine buses for free tomorrow as part of National Dump the Pump Day.
The annual event is designed to encourage people to choose public transportation, walking or other alternatives to driving. Supporters of the campaign say reducing reliance on personal vehicles can help lower transportation costs, ease traffic congestion and decrease environmental impacts.
SunLine Transit Agency announced that free rides will be available on its fixed-route bus system, including Routes 1 through 9 and Route 14.
Transit officials say the event highlights the benefits of public transportation for both riders and the community. In addition to helping residents save money on fuel and vehicle expenses, public transit can reduce the number of cars on local roads and contribute to improved air quality throughout the region.
National Dump the Pump Day is observed by transit agencies across the country and serves as a reminder of the role public transportation plays in connecting communities while promoting more sustainable travel options.
SunLine encourages residents who may not regularly use public transportation to take advantage of the free-ride opportunity and explore the convenience of the valley's transit system.
Officials say even small changes in commuting habits can have a positive impact by reducing traffic, conserving energy and supporting cleaner air in the Coachella Valley.
The free fares will be available throughout the day on participating fixed routes as part of the nationwide observance.
