Manny the Movie Guy Reviews ‘Toy Story 5,’ ‘Leviticus’ and ‘I Will Find You’
Manny the Movie Guy is back with reviews of three new releases spanning animation, horror and streaming suspense.
Leading the lineup is "Toy Story 5," the latest installment in Pixar's beloved franchise. Manny admitted he was initially skeptical about the need for a fifth film but says the movie won him over. The story follows Woody, Buzz and Jessie as they face a new villain: a tablet named Lillipad, voiced by Greta Lee. The film explores themes of technology versus traditional toys while delivering the friendship and heart fans have come to expect from the series.
Manny praised the performances of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen while singling out Joan Cusack's Jessie as a standout. He also highlighted the film's cutting-edge animation, calling it some of Pixar's most impressive work to date. "Toy Story 5" earned three-and-a-half out of four kisses.
Also arriving in theaters is "Leviticus," an Australian supernatural horror film that debuted at Sundance. The story centers on two teenage boys pursued by a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most. Director Adrian Chiarella uses the horror premise to explore themes of identity, acceptance and forbidden love. Manny described the film as smart, emotional and timely, awarding it three-and-a-half out of four kisses.
For streaming audiences, Netflix's "I Will Find You" stars Sam Worthington as a father serving a life sentence for a crime he says he did not commit. After receiving evidence that his supposedly deceased son may still be alive, he escapes prison in search of the truth. Manny called the thriller an addictive binge-watch and gave it three out of four kisses.
Whether viewers are looking for family entertainment, thought-provoking horror or a suspenseful streaming series, Manny says there's something for everyone this week.
