Viral Social Media Video Sparks Questions Over Armed Border Patrol Traffic Stop and Pursuit in Palm Springs
PALM SPRINGS, California — Local law enforcement agencies are raising questions following a high-stakes traffic stop and subsequent vehicle pursuit initiated by federal border agents in the heart of Palm Springs. The multi-city incident, which occurred on Friday morning, June 19, 2026, became a subject of intense public scrutiny after a shocking eyewitness video began circulating widely on local social media platforms.
The video depicts an individual believed to be a plainclothes United States Customs and Border Protection officer or federal Border Patrol agent attempting to conduct an enforcement stop in the middle of a heavily trafficked intersection near Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail. In the footage, the agent can be seen drawing and pointing a firearm directly at the driver of a vehicle while attempting to detain them. Rather than complying with the commands, the motorist abruptly accelerated and fled the scene, prompting federal agents to immediately launch a vehicle pursuit.
The chase crossed city lines and headed eastbound into neighboring Cathedral City. Officials with the Cathedral City Police Department confirmed that the federal pursuit entered their municipal jurisdiction at approximately 8:29 a.m. However, because of safety protocols and regional density, Border Patrol agents ultimately elected to call off the active chase within the city limits. Local authorities confirmed that the incident concluded without any reported injuries, property damage, or vehicular crashes, and the suspect remains at large.
The federal operation caught local municipal police departments completely off guard. Administrators with the Palm Springs Police Department confirmed that while they were aware of subsequent law enforcement activity in the area, their department received no advance notification or coordination from federal authorities regarding an active operation within city limits. Similarly, the Cathedral City Police Department emphasized that none of its officers participated in the pursuit, nor were they notified of any secondary arrests related to the incident. United States Customs and Border Protection has been contacted for formal comment regarding the underlying circumstances that prompted the armed confrontation, but the federal agency has not yet issued a public response.

Salton city resident Abraham Feinbloom is expected to take a plea deal in the murder case of 17 year old T’Neya Tovar. Under the plea deal obtained by the Imperial County Criminal Courthouse, Feinbloom will plead guilty to one count of torture and voluntary manslaughter. According to court records, he is also expected to assist law enforcement in finding the rest of the victim’s remains.
