Green Room Theatre Company Lands Massive $100,000 Grant to Expand Cultural Programs and Staffing

COACHELLA, Calif. — The local performing arts scene is about to get a major upgrade ahead of the upcoming autumn performance cycle. The Green Room Theatre Company Coachella Valley officially announced it has secured a transformative 100,000 dollar grant from the Tammis Day Foundation earlier this month. This substantial financial infusion marks a major step forward for the non-profit organization and expands on an initial 2,500 dollar seed donation provided by the foundation back in December 2025 that first kickstarted their philanthropic partnership.
According to specific guidelines outlined by the Tammis Day Foundation, the 100,000 dollar grant is split directly down the middle to bolster both creative output and organizational infrastructure. Exactly half of the total funds will be dedicated toward producing two to three mainstage artistic productions, which will be selected in close coordination with the foundation. The remaining 50,000 dollars is designated entirely for administrative operational fees, allowing the company to invest in sustainable staff expansion to handle its growing operational footprint across the desert.
The theatre company has already strategically deployed the administrative portion of the grant to establish two brand-new, part-time personnel positions. The organization has brought on a dedicated education manager along with a specialized bookkeeping intern. The newly created education manager role will focus entirely on developing and overseeing comprehensive educational and community outreach programming tailored for youth, teenagers, adults, and institutional partners. A primary objective of this role will be expanding high-quality artistic training opportunities throughout the region, with a specialized focus on historically underserved or under-resourced East Coachella Valley neighborhoods.
Founding Artistic Director David Catanzarite emphasized that this generous grant effectively propels the Green Room Theatre into a highly sophisticated level of institutional funding. The capital enables the organization to continue recruiting and paying top-tier artistic talent while systematically expanding its structural capacity as it enters its milestone 18th season. Operating as a growing non-profit entity, the company is unique in the region for touring professional theater and traditional ballet folklorico performances directly to residents in Indio, Coachella, Thermal, and Mecca. The company is currently on a strategic path toward achieving official recognition by Actors Equity for a Small Professional Theatre contract.
Nila Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Tammis Day Foundation, expressed immense pride in backing the performing arts across the desert landscape. Rodriguez noted that after closely tracking the company's regional activities since 2025, the foundation's leadership has been consistently impressed by the theatre's tangible local impact, creative vision, and deep-seated commitment to localized equity. Planning is actively underway for the company's upcoming theatrical season, which is scheduled to officially launch in the fall of 2026. Interested community members, prospective students, and theater patrons can learn more about upcoming performance schedules and educational enrollment by visiting the company's official website at www.grtccv.org.
