U.S.-Iran Talks Continue Amid New Threats and Rising Tensions
High-stakes negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are continuing for a second day in Switzerland, with Vice President JD Vance leading the American delegation.
The talks are focused heavily on Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and preventing further conflict across the Middle East.
Vance says Iran has agreed to allow international nuclear inspectors back into the country, marking what the administration calls a major step forward.
But tensions remain high.
Donald Trump warned Iran against closing the Strait of Hormuz, while also threatening action if Iranian-backed proxy groups like Hezbollah continue attacks in Lebanon.
Iran briefly claimed it had closed the key shipping route, though U.S. officials dispute that.
Meanwhile, ongoing clashes between Hezbollah and Israel are creating new obstacles, with concerns the violence could unravel the fragile progress.
Democrats, including Cory Booker, criticized the administration’s strategy, calling it reckless.
Still, U.S. officials and international mediators say a framework for a final agreement could come together within the next 60 days, if both sides can navigate the turbulence ahead.
