City of Indio and CSUSB Partner for Student Success Clothing Drive
INDIO, Calif. — The City of Indio has announced the successful completion of its first-ever internal Suit Up for Success clothing drive, a community-driven effort organized to help local college students transition seamlessly from academia into professional careers. Spearheaded by the city's Human Resources Department, the donation campaign was established in direct partnership with the Career Center at California State University, San Bernardino’s Palm Desert Campus. The initiative highlights a growing commitment among municipal leaders to support regional workforce development and educational equity throughout the Coachella Valley.
Municipal employees participated heavily throughout the drive, ultimately collecting more than 200 individual items of high-quality business attire and professional accessories. The final donation inventory yielded over 110 interview-ready garments, including tailored suits, blazers, and professional dresses, alongside more than 50 ties, multiple pairs of corporate footwear, and a substantial supply of brand-new dress socks. By focusing specifically on workplace apparel, organizers aimed to eliminate a common but frequently overlooked financial barrier that prevents lower-income students from confidently pursuing high-level professional roles.
The accumulated items will be distributed directly through the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus Career Center, where staff members actively provide students and alumni with comprehensive career planning, interview preparation workshops, and resume-building resources. Having immediate access to professional wardrobe options ensures that local students are properly equipped to make positive first impressions during upcoming regional networking events, competitive internship interviews, corporate career fairs, and formal workplace entry processes.
Following the notable response to this inaugural campaign, Indio city administrators expressed strong interest in transforming the Suit Up for Success drive into a permanent, annual partnership with the university. By anchoring these career readiness resources within the community, city officials and university leaders are working in tandem to build a more competitive, well-prepared workforce to support the valley's evolving economic layout.
