Duke Basketball Headlines Acrisure Series as Power Baseball Partners With Library
PALM DESERT, Calif. — The highly anticipated Acrisure Series is set to return to the hardwood this autumn, bringing some of the biggest names in college basketball to the Coachella Valley. Sports director Tim O'Brien announced that the Duke University Blue Devils will headline the tournament at Acrisure Arena, marking the legendary program's first-ever appearance in the region. The Blue Devils will travel to Southern California following an incredibly dominant two-year stretch under head coach Jon Scheyer, during which the team achieved back-to-back 35-win campaigns and combined for a spectacular 70-7 overall record. Duke will lead a stellar multi-team lineup at the showcase that also includes major collegiate programs such as USC, Santa Clara, Grand Canyon University, Arizona State, and Nevada.
Back on the local diamond, the Palm Springs Power collegiate baseball team is celebrating community literacy through a new municipal partnership. Palm Springs Public Library Director Jeanne Kays is scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday evening at Palm Springs Stadium to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. To mark the collaboration, the library is offering free general admission to all Power home games through July 17 for any fan who presents a valid Palm Springs library card at the stadium box office. This initiative aligns with the library's ongoing summer reading challenge, which encourages young readers to log books for weekly raffle prizes ahead of a grand celebration at the ballpark next month.
The promotional excitement at Palm Springs Stadium continues into the weekend with a highly anticipated entertainment crossover. Following the final out of the game between the Power and the Mavericks on Saturday, June 27, the stadium will host the return of MicroMania Wrestling. Fans can watch highly popular touring performers like Jamaican Joe, 25 Cent, and Mini Johnny enter the ring for a high-energy, action-packed show. Tickets for the special event night are priced at ten dollars for general admission and five dollars for children, with the game's first pitch scheduled for the early evening.
