Skateboarder Completes Epic Cross-Country Trek
VENICE BEACH, Calif. — In an astonishing display of sheer physical endurance and mental fortitude, professional skateboarder Chad Caruso has completed a monumental 3,000-mile journey across the United States. Pushing off from the concrete of Venice Beach, California, on May 1, 2026, Caruso embarked on a relentless eastbound trek that concluded when he rolled into Jacksonville, Florida, on June 8. The extreme cross-country feat was executed to secure a new spot in the Guinness World Records, capturing the attention of skating communities and fans nationwide as he documented his coast-to-coast progress.
Caruso's demanding route took him directly through the High Desert, passing through Joshua Tree just outside the Coachella Valley before cutting across the Arizona wilderness, traversing the heart of Texas, and navigating the length of the Florida Panhandle. To complete the massive distance in just over five weeks, Caruso maintained a punishing schedule that averaged roughly 72 miles of skateboarding per day. His daily routine required him to wake up before dawn to begin pushing by 4:30 a.m., frequently skating for 12 to 16 hours straight until 7:00 p.m. without taking a single day off to rest his joints.
The historical achievement almost never made it to the pavement due to a severe physical setback prior to departure. Caruso suffered a torn meniscus and an accompanying cyst, which required surgical intervention and a lengthy rehabilitation protocol. Although he successfully completed his initial physical therapy, disaster struck when he re-tore the exact same knee ligament a mere two months before his scheduled launch date. Refusing to abandon the mission, Caruso pushed through the underlying pain to honor his timeline. He revealed that the cross-country concept originally grew from an unrealized plan to skate across the width of Italy, though the ultimate challenge of chasing a blank space in the Guinness record books eventually hooked his focus onto the American highway system.
Throughout the exhausting journey, Caruso relied heavily on the organic kindness of strangers, who routinely handed him water bottles, food, and hundreds of dollars in spontaneous cash donations along the roadside. While the trip restored his faith in human nature, it also brought moments of intense danger. While pushing through the dark on a rural highway, a spooked dog suddenly bolted across the road, missing his board by just three feet and forcing an abrupt end to his skating for the night. Reflecting on the mental toll, Caruso noted that funding the entire project out of pocket on his personal credit card added financial pressure to what was already a relentless daily confrontation with the unknown. Ultimately, Caruso stated that the experience profoundly changed his worldview, proving that a positive attitude and a friendly smile are almost always mirrored back by the people of America.
