Cathedral City Announces Lane Closures, Utility Trench Repairs on East Palm Canyon Drive Thursday

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — Commuters and drivers traveling through Cathedral City should prepare for localized lane reductions and minor traffic delays on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Municipal construction crews are scheduled to execute essential pavement repair work along a busy stretch of East Palm Canyon Drive.

According to city officials, the maintenance project is slated to begin at 7:00 AM and wrap up by 4:00 PM on the eastbound side of the thoroughfare. The specific construction zone stretches between the intersections of Date Palm Drive and Sungate Way.

The maintenance work will focus primarily on repairing utility trenches that have disrupted the smoothness of the asphalt roadway. To ensure the safety of both transit operators and the civil engineering crews, eastbound lanes will be systematically closed off in two separate, alternating phases throughout the day.

Regional traffic managers confirmed that at least one eastbound lane will remain open to moving traffic at all times during the construction window. Nevertheless, municipal authorities are strongly encouraging local motorists to significantly reduce their speeds when entering the active zone, remain highly vigilant for ground workers and heavy mechanical equipment, and utilize alternative routes whenever possible to completely bypass potential bottlenecking.
