Joe's Lemonade Stand Targets $100,000 Milestone for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare

MINNEAPOLIS — A beloved community tradition is aiming to cross a historic fundraising milestone this summer as a local young man sets up his annual neighborhood refreshment stand for an eleventh consecutive year. What began as a modest grassroots effort to give back following a pediatric surgery has blossomed into a powerful regional campaign, raising tens of thousands of dollars to support children and adaptive mobility programs.

Joe Carr and his family first launched the lemonade stand outside their family home in 2015. Inspired by the specialized care Joe received at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, the initial fundraiser brought in just a few hundred dollars. However, driven by Joe's remarkably outgoing personality and an expanding wave of neighborhood support, the annual event rapidly evolved. Last year alone, the stand generated more than 17,000 dollars, pushing the lifetime fundraising total past 88,000 dollars heading into this summer's operations.

Every dollar generated by the lemonade stand goes directly to support the Gillette Children's Adaptive Bike Fund. The specialized program helps source, customize, and deliver adaptive bicycles for children and adults navigating physical disabilities, providing them with life-changing mobility, physical therapy benefits, and recreational independence. Organizers credit the sustained success of the drive to the deep connections Joe naturally builds with everyone he encounters, drawing a diverse crowd of longtime neighbors, digital supporters, and travelers who journey from across the state to contribute.

This year's fundraising event featured an unexpected celebration coordinated by local community supporters. Representatives from Blaze Credit Union, a multi-year supporter of the initiative, surprised Joe by bringing country music artist Haley James to perform live at the stand. James performed her original song titled Lemonade, a track directly inspired by Joe's dedication and the communal joy his annual project brings to the region. With donations still pouring in from the event, the Carr family remains hopeful that this year's proceeds will successfully push their lifetime contribution total over the 100,000 dollar mark.
