SunLine to Unveil Bus Honoring Ophelia Mentorship Program

A special SunLine Transit Agency bus celebrating one of the Coachella Valley's longest-running mentorship programs is being unveiled today in Thousand Palms.

The bus honors the Ophelia program, an initiative of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Foundation that focuses on mentoring and empowering young women throughout the region.

The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at SunLine Transit Agency headquarters and will include community leaders, mentors, students, program alumni and foundation representatives.

The bus design features images of local women leaders, former participants and the program's signature butterfly logo, symbolizing growth, transformation and empowerment.

Founded in 2002, the Ophelia program provides mentorship, leadership training and life-skills development opportunities for girls across the Coachella Valley. According to organizers, the program has trained more than 1,000 mentors and positively impacted more than 7,000 young women over the past two decades.

Foundation leaders say the bus serves as a moving tribute to the program's legacy and its ongoing mission to inspire confidence, leadership and personal growth among future generations of women.

Today's ribbon-cutting ceremony is expected to highlight the program's achievements while celebrating the mentors, volunteers and students who have helped make it a success throughout the Coachella Valley.
