President Trump Unveils New Commemorative U.S. Passport Design Featuring His Likeness
PALM DESERT, Calif. — President Donald Trump has unveiled a new visual rendering of a special commemorative United States passport bearing his own likeness. Debuted on Friday through a social media post, the limited-edition travel document is designed to mark the historic milestone of America’s 250th anniversary this year.
Sharing the sample passport page on Truth Social, the president captioned the image by writing that the new passport says, "Welcome, but be good!" The sample page features an image of President Trump looming over the historic Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, superimposed over the text of the original Declaration of Independence with his signature emblazoned at the bottom. The adjacent page displays a reproduction of the famous painting "The Declaration of Independence" by John Trumbull. This latest design utilizes a rendering of the president based on his official portrait from the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., marking a distinct change from a different rendering released by the State Department earlier this year.
The White House subsequently amplified the announcement by posting the image on its official X account with the caption, "New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America’s 250th." When questioned about whether this specific rendering constitutes the finalized version for the celebratory travel documents, White House officials directed all operational inquiries to the State Department.
The special travel document was initially announced in April as a key component of the nation's semiquincentennial celebrations, promising custom artwork and enhanced imagery on the front, back, and inside covers. According to federal officials, the commemorative edition will serve as the default passport issued exclusively to individuals who complete their renewals in person at the Washington Passport Agency once it becomes physically available. Conversely, citizens utilizing online renewal options or applying through any other passport agency locations nationwide will continue to receive the existing standard passport design, which prominently features Percy Moran's painting of Francis Scott Key and lines from the national anthem.
