Men Encouraged to Get Routine Check-Ups in the Valley
As June marks Men’s Health Month, a local doctor is urging men across the Coachella Valley to take a more proactive approach to their health.
Dr. Joel Tremblay with Desert Regional Medical Center says many men tend to avoid routine medical visits and often only seek care when a serious health issue arises. As a result, he says, important preventative screenings and early detection opportunities are frequently missed.
According to Dr. Tremblay, this pattern contributes to a significant gap in life expectancy, with men on average living five to six years less than women.
He encourages men to prioritize regular checkups and not delay care due to fear of lifestyle changes or medical advice.
“One of the reasons it seems that men don't come to clinic is because they're afraid that we're going to tell them to stop doing something,” Tremblay said. “But there are a lot of small things we can do that don’t involve stopping something that can still benefit you.”
He added that even modest changes and early intervention can significantly improve long-term health outcomes.
Dr. Tremblay also noted that local resources are available for those who may be uninsured or struggling with access to care, emphasizing that preventative health services can be a critical step toward improving overall quality of life.
