Palm Desert Breaks Ground on Inclusive $2M Civic Center Park Playground Upgrade

Palm Desert is moving forward with a major upgrade to Civic Center Park, completely rebuilding its playground with new equipment, expanded space, and enhanced accessibility features.

City leaders say the $2 million project will create a more inclusive play environment designed to support children with autism and other neurodiverse needs, while also improving overall accessibility for families.

The renovation marks the first major playground overhaul at the park in nearly 20 years. In addition to new play structures, the redesigned space will include added shade and upgraded amenities intended to make the park more comfortable and usable year-round.

Funding for the project comes from the city’s general fund and capital improvement program.

City officials say the goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where children of all abilities can play and families can gather outdoors.

The new playground is expected to open by the Fourth of July holiday.
