Big Bear Bald Eagle Family Takes Flight as Both Eaglets Successfully Fledge

The Big Bear bald eagle family is celebrating a major milestone as both eaglets have now successfully left the nest.

Friends of Big Bear Valley confirmed that Luna took flight one day after sibling Sandy also left the nest, marking the end of their time as dependent chicks and the beginning of their independence.

In newly released footage, Luna can be seen making a graceful flight to a nearby tree, where their father, Shadow, was waiting. The organization says both young eagles are doing well and are safe following their first flights.

Sandy had previously slipped from the nest earlier in the week but was later confirmed to have flown off safely as well.

With both eaglets now flying, the Big Bear bald eagle family’s nesting season has reached an important and successful transition, as the young birds continue learning to navigate their natural environment under the watchful eye of their parents.
