Know Before You Go: Miles Avenue Sees Heavy Work In La Quinta, New Signal Taking Shape In Palm Springs

It's time for Know Before You Go, our weekly look at the road work happening across the Coachella Valley so you can plan your route and skip the headache. CV Sync Traffic Program Manager Kris Gunterson joined us in the studio to break down what drivers need to know this week.

La Quinta: Miles Avenue Pavement Project

Crews are working down Miles Avenue in both directions between Adams Street and Dune Palms Road starting today, and both of those intersections will sit in red flash for the duration. Gunterson says the work moves west one block at a time, so different stretches of the road will be active over the next couple weeks.

Drivers who normally cut through Miles Avenue should use Fred Waring Drive or Highway 111 instead. Gunterson says to slow down and watch for flaggers and heavy equipment if you do pass through one of those red flash intersections, since crews will be working close to traffic. The closure is expected to wrap by the end of July, though Gunterson says it could run a bit longer around the Fourth of July holiday.

Palm Springs: new signal at Indian Canyon and Via Escuela

Crews are starting work on a new traffic signal at Indian Canyon and Via Escuela. Right now, that means intermittent lane closures while crews locate utility lines and prep the foundation work, Gunterson says, and drivers should expect to see stop signs at the intersection as the project moves forward.

This one's a longer build, expected to wrap up in September, so Gunterson says it's worth keeping on your radar. Nothing here should slow traffic down much for now, but the goal is to avoid catching drivers off guard once work ramps up.

Gunterson's main piece of advice for the week: stay off the phone. He says CV Sync's office regularly sees drivers sitting at green lights, distracted, while the cars behind them wait. With a busy summer of projects ahead, paying attention behind the wheel matters more than ever.
